Wedding in the Dominican Republic

Requirements

Birth certificate

Original or certified copy. Requires an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state. Foreign documents must be apostilled or certified by the corresponding Consulate.

Single status affidavit

Must be signed before a Notary Public and have an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state.

Divorce judgment or decree

Original or certified copy, when applicable. Requires an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state. Foreign documents must be apostilled or certified by the corresponding consulate.

Death certificate of the deceased spouse

Original or certified copy, when applicable. Must have an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State if issued in the U.S.; foreign documents must be certified by the corresponding consulate.

Prepaid return envelope

Must include your address, tracking number, and postage. We accept USPS Priority Mail, USPS Express Mail, and UPS.

Document shipment

Send all required documents to our consular headquarters: Dominican Consulate, 8770 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. Ste 1300, Chicago, IL 60631.

Example of Single Status Affidavit

(DO NOT REMOVE OR ADD ANY INFORMATION. COPY AS IS)

If you have NEVER been married, the affidavit must state the following:

"I, (your name), declare that I am single, that I have never been married, and that I have not applied for a marriage license in the state of (name of the state where you live) or in any other state of the United States of America".

"My fiancé/fiancée, (their name), and I will be married in (city in the D.R. and hotel name, if applicable), Dominican Republic, on (date of the wedding ceremony)".

Notes

  • Documents issued in English will be translated into Spanish and sealed by the Consulate before continuing the process.
