First-Time National ID Card

Requirements

1
Dominican birth certificate

Copy of the birth certificate, legalized from 2019 onwards.

2
Parents' National ID Card

Valid from 2024 onwards or a copy of both sides. If the parents are deceased, a copy of the Dominican death certificate in Spanish is required. If it is in English because the parent passed away in the United States, you must complete its transcription (see related pages at the end).

3
Sibling's National ID Card

Valid from 2024 onwards or a copy of both sides.

4
ID with address

Valid ID with your address and photo. If you do not have an ID from the state where you reside, you must provide proof of address.

5
Proof of address in the Dominican Republic

If it is the same address your parents use, you only need to inform us.

6
Marriage certificate

If you wish it to show married status. If it is in English because you were married in the United States, you must complete its transcription (see related pages at the end).

Notes

  • The delivery process is done in person, as it requires fingerprints. This may require a second visit.
  • If you obtained your ID when it was in cardboard format, you must complete the process as if it were the first time.
  • If you were born outside the Dominican Republic, you must first complete the dual citizenship process (see the related Dominican Citizenship page at the end). Once that process is completed, you may apply for your identity and electoral card.
  • The ID photo is taken here with a white background, so you must come wearing a shirt or polo that is a different color.
  • For questions, you must send a message to the email: chicago@jce.do.
