Description: Requirements for non-Dominican citizens to get married in the Dominican Republic. These documents will be translated from English to Spanish and sealed by our Consulate.
Requirements
- Original or certified copy of the birth certificate. Requires an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state. Foreign documents must be apostilled/certified by the corresponding Consulate.
- Sworn declaration of single status (marital status). Must be signed before a Notary Public and have an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state. (Please see the sworn declaration template below).
- Original or certified copy of the divorce decree/judgment (when applicable). Requires an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State of the issuing state. Foreign documents must be apostilled/certified by the corresponding Consulate.
- Original or certified copy of the death certificate of the deceased spouse (when applicable). Must have an Apostille seal from the Secretary of State if issued in the U.S.; foreign documents must be certified by the corresponding Consulate.
- Prepaid envelope with your address for the return of the documents. Must have a tracking number and postal stamp. We accept USPS Priority Mail, USPS Express Mail, and UPS.

Example of Sworn Declaration of Single Status

If you have NEVER been married, the sworn declaration must say the following:
"I, (your name), declare that I am single, that I have never been married, and that I have not applied for a marriage license in the state of (name of the state where you live) or in any other state of the United States of America."
"My fiancé/fiancée, (your name), and I will get married in (city in the D.R. and name of the hotel, if applicable), Dominican Republic, on (date of the wedding ceremony)."
