Dominican Citizenship

Requirements

  • Long Form Birth Certificate, apostilled by the Secretary of State where it was issued.
  • Translate the apostilled birth certificate into Spanish in the USA. Please request this service by email at: drchicagoconsulate@gmail.com

    If the translation is done outside the consulate, the translation must be apostilled in the country where the process was completed.
    Translation Fee: 75 dollars
    Duration: 7 to 10 business days

  • Copy of both sides on one page of the valid ID card of the Dominican father and the Dominican mother. If one of the parents is a foreigner, an ID is required. The parents’ names on the ID must match exactly as they appear on the birth certificate of the citizen requesting transcription, and it must be clear on the birth certificate that one or both parents are of Dominican origin.
    If the parents are deceased, a copy of the death certificate in Spanish is required. If it is in English, it must be apostilled by the Secretary of State where the death occurred, and then the apostilled death certificate must be translated into Spanish in the USA.   • Attend the Central Electoral Board with the apostilled and translated birth certificate to carry out the transcription process. Children aged 14 and older must appear in person at the Board.

Notes

  • The process must be carried out in person.
  • Once your Dominican birth certificate is ready, the Central Electoral Board in Chicago will contact you to inform you. You may visit any JCE office to request the printing.
