Notes

  • If you started the renewal process at another consulate or your passport has a stamp from the General Directorate of Passports, you must inform us.
  • You can renew your passport up to 6 months before its expiration date.
  • The passport will be issued with the data as it appears on your identity card.
  • If you are applying for a passport for the first time, the birth certificate must indicate that it was declared by a parent with Dominican nationality (the name must match the identity card). You must bring the valid identity card (2024 onwards) of the Dominican parent.
  • In cases of loss or damage, you must send us a photo of your identity card to verify your data in the system and inform you of the exact price.
  • If you had a manual passport, you must bring all valid identification issued in the U.S. that you have.
  • For minor passports, the child must be accompanied by the father, mother, or legal guardian. Requirements:
    • Valid identity card of the accompanying person (2024 onwards) and a color copy of both sides (one below the other).
    • If a guardian, you must bring the printed legal power of attorney and your valid identification.
    • If the parents are foreigners, they must present, as applicable:
      • Dominican Naturalization Certificate issued by the Ministry of Interior and Police of the Dominican Republic (valid from 2021), or
      • Valid Dominican Residency
  • For naturalized citizens, a Naturalization Certificate from 2021 onwards is also required. If you do not have it, you can request it through the Ministry of Interior and Police website: mipenlinea.gob.do/portal/
  • If you do not have your birth certificate, you can obtain it at the Central Electoral Board (located in our facilities).

You can start the process by sending a photo of the expired certificate or the following data: full name, identity card number, phone number. Email: chicago@jce.do

Birth certificate price: 25 dollars (payment by credit/debit card)

  • If your identity card expired in 2024 or after, you do not need to renew it for now. The Central Electoral Board is carrying out a plastic card replacement. You may carry out your procedures with the expired identity card until further notice from the CEB.
  • If you want us to return your passport by postal mail, please note that we are NOT responsible for that process. Once sent, you must track it with the postal service tracking number. We recommend picking it up in person.
  • On the day of your appointment, you must appear at the consulate with all the required documents.
